Traffic on 1-12 through the Hammond area was backed up in both directions yesterday, causing spillover onto 190 and Highway 22.
Hammond Fire Department says yesterday at around 4:34 pm, they were notified of a vehicle accident on I-12, at approximately mile marker 43.
Upon arrival HFD found a Semi dump truck well involved in fire in the median of I 12.
HFD began extinguishing the fire and called for 8th Ward VFD for water. The fire was brought under control shortly after.
This incident resulted in a fatality, however no victim information or pictures were released by HFD. They offered their condolences and prayers to the family of the victim of this accident.
