Yesterday Tangipahoa Parish schools scrambled to make sure students got home from school after dozens of bus drivers called out sick after dropping students off Thursday morning.
The Tangipahoa Parish school system released a statement to parents regarding the sickout. It said the school district received calls from many bus drivers across the district who could not run their afternoon routes and the district wanted families to know in case their child did not arrive home at their normal scheduled time.
This follows a sickout by St Tammany bus drivers last week that left children behind at fourteen schools around that district. The bus drivers in St Tammany are protesting the amount of money the district pays for upkeep of their buses.
Yesterday Tangipahoa Parish Schools cancelled after school academic programs and said if families could pick up their children from school at the normal dismissal time it would be helpful.
