The Junior League of Greater Covington and Ochsner Blood Bank are teaming up to host a community blood drive Saturday, January 29, at the Junior League headquarters at 529 N Columbia St in Covington.
This event will be from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
The Junior League of Greater Covington has partnered with the Ochsner Blood Bank for the month of January to build awareness around National Blood Donor Month. They are encouraging Junior League members and the community to donate blood to help fight the blood shortage that accrued during the holiday and winter months.
For every donation on January 29th Ochsner will donate money towards the JLGC’s scholarship fund.
While all blood types are accepted, they are experiencing a critical blood shortage of platelets and Type O red cells.
All who are healthy are encouraged to donate. The Blood Bank asks that you please postpone your donation for 28 days if you’ve been diagnosed with or have had contact with anyone with a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19.
Healthy blood donors are encouraged to donate every 8 weeks.
There is no deferral period after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.
The Junior League of Greater Covington and Ochsner’s blood drive is open to the public and eligible donors are encouraged to attend and help save a life.
Donors must: be at least 17 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds, be over cold or flu symptoms for 72 hours, have not donated whole blood in the last eight weeks, have had no transfusions for one year, have no history of hepatitis after age 11, have had no tattoos in the last month from a facility that is not regulated by the state of Louisiana.
