
Yesterday the Louisiana Department of Health reported 17,592 new #COVID cases out of 84,376 tests, breaking the single-day pandemic record of 14,802 set 1/7/22.
That marks the fourth time the record has been broken since December 30th of 2021.
Also yesterday, 2,384 cases of reinfection were reported. 35,819 total cases of reinfection have been reported since the pandemic started. Reinfections are not included in case counts.
Yesterday’s report included 1,999 COVID hospitalizations. The largest share of new cases were among those ages 5-17 (20%), ages 18-29 (20%), and ages 30-39 (17%). Of the cases, 31% came from Region 2 (Baton Rouge), 15% from Region 1 (Greater New Orleans), and 12% from Region 9 (Northshore).
14 additional #COVID deaths were reported.
In a related story, Governor John Bel Edwards has announced he will be holding a news conference this morning.
The news conference is scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m.
Edwards will be speaking about Louisiana’s response to COVID-19 and the Omicron variant. He will also be joined by Dr. Joe Kanter from the Louisiana Department of Health.
