
The Louisiana State Police announced yesterday that a person was killed in a shooting with an officer.
The shooting happened on Airline Hwy under Causeway Boulevard.
State police confirmed that one person was dead from the shooting and the incident involved personnel from Louisiana State Police Troop B and the East Jefferson Levee District Police Department.
State Police said multiple law enforcement agencies were assisting with traffic control at the intersection of Airline Highway and Severn Avenue due to traffic signal repair operations.
State Police said officers were alerted to a man walking with a firearm on Airline Highway near Causeway Boulevard. According to a news release issued by State Police, a man was carrying a firearm in one hand and a knife in the other hand.
State Police said when officers attempted to make contact with the man he ran from the scene and a pursuit began. During the pursuit, State Police said law enforcement personnel gave repeated verbal commands to drop the weapons and discharged a taser, which troopers say proved ineffective.
State Police claim the man being pursued turned and faced officers and pointed the firearm in their direction.
A Trooper and two East Jefferson Levee District Officers discharged their service weapons, striking the man.
The subject died on the scene.
