St. Tammany Parish President Mike Cooper released the results of the LA Hwy. 1077 corridor study, which was conducted in conjunction with the Regional Planning Commission.
The concentration of the study was LA 1077, between U.S. 190 in Goodbee and Interstate 12, which shows increased traffic congestion, due to population and development growth.
Currently, the 3.1 miles reviewed indicated nearly 15,000 vehicles travel daily between I-12 and LA 1085.
Due to the estimated costs ($50M+) associated with the improvements recommended, the study included both near-term and long-term improvements to provide for an expedited timeline.
Near-term upgrades include I-12 interchange ramp improvements, capacity increases at the LA Hwy. 1077/LA Hwy. 1085 intersection, and the four-lane widening of LA Hwy. 1077 from I-12 to one-half mile north of the LA Hwy. 1077/LA Hwy. 1085 intersection.
Long-term improvements expand upon near term improvements to provide four lanes from south of the I-12 overpass to the intersection with U.S. 190.
The completion of the study is the necessary, first step in providing critical enhancements to LA Hwy. 1077.
President Cooper says he will work with the RPC, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development and our legislators to move forward with the near-term recommendations, including design and funding, to alleviate traffic congestion along this vital highway.
