Covington lost a downtown landmark last night.
The Marsolan Feed & Seed is deemed a total loss after a fire engulfed the structure where it sits on East Gibson Street.
Witnesses credit first responders with containing the dangerous fire among the crowded downtown, although some adjacent buildings will have to be assessed this morning for possible damage.
No word on the cause of the fire but there were no reported injuries.
A CLECO power outage map indicated there were outages in the downtown area as a result of the fire.
The store was founded in 1939 by Norman Marsolan and was operated by his son, Harvey. They sell seeds, plants, pine straw, garden tools, and fertilizer. Family members said they received calls about the fire and rushed to the scene.
