Nearly $7 billion in funding is coming to Louisiana thanks to the newly passed, bipartisan infrastructure bill.
Dr. Shawn Wilson, secretary for the Department of Transportation and Development says the money is desperately needed, with the state holding a list of unmet transportation needs somewhere around 14 billion.
Wilson said money should start to arrive within the next six months, saying it will fund projects for years to come.
More than $4 billion has been allocated for improvements to highways and other roads.
Another billion will be spent on upgrading bridges.
Wilson said in the New Orleans Metro area, high-speed rail service to Baton Rouge and Mobile could become a reality because of the infrastructure bill.
