In an online update yesterday, Mike Cooper said debris removal trucks continue to be added to the fleet as the contractor, DRC Emergency Services, is now averaging more than 40,000 cubic yards of debris daily.
As of Monday afternoon, nearly 1.6 million cubic yards of debris has been picked up from unincorporated St. Tammany.
Cooper wrote that while some of our southern neighboring parishes experienced more widespread impacts to homes, St. Tammany Parish experienced catastrophic damage to our tree canopy, which is evident in our green debris removal.
In all of St. Tammany, including unincorporated, state highways and local municipalities, more than 2.2 million cubic yards of debris has been picked up.
That debris is being disposed of within DEQ’s environmental friendly guidelines at one of seven approved locations.
