There are fewer coronavirus patients in Louisiana hospitals now than at any point in the pandemic.
It is a dramatic decline from a few months ago and a sign that for the moment, the state’s COVID fight has entered a new phase.
Yesterday the Louisiana Department of Health reported that 235 patients were hospitalized with coronavirus. The state began tracking COVID hospitalizations on March 24, 2020, when 271 patients were hospitalized.
It also appears that the delta variant prompted more vaccinations. In Louisiana, 48% of residents have received a vaccination, a notable increase from around 35% before delta. The state nevertheless lags well behind the national vaccination rate of 58%.
