Two Tangipahoa Parish deputies killed in the line of duty will be honored in a highway dedication ceremony in Amite on Nov. 12 at 9 a.m.
On the day before that, Veterans Memorial Park in Amite will be renamed in memory of the late Buddy Bel, a veteran and former mayor.
During the past Legislative session, Sen. Beth Mizell authored a bill to name Highway 16, south of Amite, in memory of the late Deputy Sheriff Edward Toefield Jr., and to name Highway 38 East in memory of the late Deputy Sheriff Richard Amacker Kent III.
Tangipahoa Parish Government will host the highway dedication ceremony at the Gordon A. Burgess Governmental Complex in Amite.
Parish President Robby Miller says due to safety concerns from the state transportation department, a ceremony cannot be conducted on the highways where the signs will placed.
The new signs will be posted after the ceremony.
