On Friday morning, St. Tammany Sheriff’s deputies were notified of threats made via Snapchat in reference to a student planning to shoot up Monteleone Junior High.
Working together with school officials, the STPSO School Resource Officer assigned to the school was able to quickly identify the student who made the threats and determine that the student had not shown up for school on Friday.
Deputies located the 13-year-old boy Friday morning at his residence. At which time, the teenager confessed to making the threats via social media.
He was taken into custody and booked into the Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center on one count of Terrorizing.
Sheriff Randy Smith said they will continue to work with local schools and investigate any and all threats at the schools or to the students and faculty who attend them. Smith added that he urged parents to please speak with their children about the seriousness of actions such as this one.
