COVID prevented an air show in Hammond for three years now, but this past weekend the event made up for lost time.
Located at the Hammond Northshore Regional Airport, stunt pilots and military personnel showcased their aircraft and put on a show for families.
Hammond Mayor Pete Panepinto said the turnout was phenomenal. Officials were still tallying totals, but the mayor said about 35,000 showed up for one day of the two day’s worth of shows.
And there was a lot more going on than just watching the planes roar across the sky. Visitors got to see different models of planes up close and just how massive the aircraft really are.
Officials said they hope to see everyone back at the next Hammond Northshore Regional Airshow on Oct 21-22, in 2023.
