The St. Tammany Parish Chamber of Commerce has endorsed a November 13 ballot proposition aimed at funding criminal justice in St. Tammany Parish.
President Mike Cooper said he wanted to personally thank the Chamber of Commerce, its leadership and board members for acknowledging and supporting the need to reestablish lost funding for the criminal justice system.
The proposition, which will be dedicated and used solely for the purpose of funding the Parish’s state-mandated responsibilities to various governmental agencies, including the Sheriff’s Office, the District Attorney’s office, and the 22nd Judicial District Court.
The proposition would generate $22.2 million of the $30 million needed to fund state-mandated criminal justice departments through a four-tenths of a penny sales tax.
