Right as a selection committee was set to convene on Monday afternoon to choose between two finalists for redeveloping the Six Flags site, Mayor LaToya Cantrell announced a deal had been struck with one of the teams to build a distribution and logistics center at an alternate site.
This left Bayou Phoenix as the lone competitor in the field, and the mayor said contract negotiations would take place over the next 60 to 90 days.
Their proposal calls for spending more than $100 million at the former amusement park site. Their plan calls for a warehousing and distribution center to anchor other aspects of their proposal, including a family STEM education center, a hotel, an indoor water park and a sports complex. T
he other finalist, Kiernan West/SHIELD 1, officially withdrew its proposal Sept. 27, Cantrell said. It has begun the process to acquire another piece of property in eastern New Orleans.
The mayor did not disclose the selected site but confirmed the partners will stick with plans to build their own logistics hub.
