The Northshore Community Foundation is raising money to distribute relief grants to frontline nonprofits responding to Hurricane Ida.
The Foundation is currently assessing damage across the Northshore region ahead of targeting grants where they are needed the most.
On Wednesday, all Northshore nonprofits were invited to participate in a virtual meeting to gather further details about local needs.
NCF is among four community foundations accepting Ida donations. The other three are Baton Rouge Area Foundation, Greater New Orleans Foundation, and the Bayou Community Foundation in Houma. Individuals, businesses and organizations can donate at www.NorthshoreFoundation.org.
Hurricane Ida landed as a category 4 storm with winds exceeding 150 miles per hour. Thousands of Louisianans have been impacted by the strong winds, surge and flooding rain that produced extensive damage to power lines, water systems, homes, buildings, and businesses, and the Northshore is no exception. Ida’s winds took a tremendous toll on electrical lines that feed energy to the Northshore, leaving the region dark, for what could be weeks. Food, fuel, water and shelter are scarce resources at this time and there is much work to be done.
The Northshore Community Foundation has raised and distributed more than $9 million for relief and recovery since Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans 16 years ago.
