St Tammany Parish Government says self-serve sandbags will open this morning at 8:00 a.m.
Sandbags can be found at the Covington Public Works Barn, 1305 N. Florida Street; Building B Koop Drive at 21410 Koop Drive in Mandeville; the Fritchie Public Works Barn at 63119 HWY 1090 in Pearl River; the Airport Road Public Works Barn at 34583 Grantham College Road in Slidell; the Keller Public Works Barn at 63131 Fish Hatchery Road in Lacombe; and the Old Levee District Site at 61134 Military Road (HWY 190) in Slidell.
These locations will have sand and bags provided.
Residents are asked to bring their own shovels in case all shovels provided are in use.
In addition, residents are asked to limit the number of sandbags to 15 per vehicle.
Parish President Mike Cooper said Parish crews spent time yesterday preparing for Ida, by pumping down detention ponds, clearing drainage ditches and providing sandbags. He added that they are asking citizens to be aware and vigilant throughout this storm.
