The pandemic has prompted another pause for federal jury trials in New Orleans.
The United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana announced Thursday all civil and criminal jury trials are suspended through Sept. 20 because of the spread of the COVID-19 Delta variant.
Court officials said the court has reduced ability to obtain adequate jurors as a result of the recent surge of cases.
The notice also said court staff and counsel have been affected by the virus, making it a challenge to safely present in the courtroom.
All jury trials will be reset by each presiding judge.
Attorneys should contact presiding judges in continued cases to seek modifications and other deadlines, according to the court.
