Of the 6,606 new cases of COVID reported yesterday in Louisiana, almost a third of them were in children, according to a spokesperson for Governor John Bel Edwards.
About 1,850 of Wednesday’s new COVID cases were in children.
The numbers were shared in a tweet that urged parents to make sure their children are masked at school and in other public places.
This spokesperson said 89.4% of the total new cases were in unvaccinated residents, and that of the 3,022 now hospitalized, 91% of those patients are unvaccinated.
Children under 12 are not eligible for COVID vaccinations.
The State of Louisiana has set new record highs for COVID hospitalizations every single day since July 27, and only 11% of the state’s total number of ICU beds are currently unoccupied.
