St Tammany Health System produced a graphic that charts the inpatient census of COVID-19 patients at their facility since the first patient was diagnosed on March 13, 2020.
The first wave hit a high of 45, and the second 36. When the third wave hit its peak in mid-January, they were at 66 patients, about a third of that day’s inpatients. As of yesterday they have 103 COVID-19 patients, and while that is less than last week’s record of 114, they are still seeing about half their hospital population in for COVID-19, with just short of 90% of them unvaccinated.
They are younger now too, with two-thirds between 14 to 64 years old.
Vaccination continues to be the strongest defense against this pandemic.
