
Hospitalizations rose to a record high again yesterday, nearing 3,000 patients statewide.
Facilities across the state have begun accepting emergency federal assistance to deal with the incoming crush of patients, for which they say they are too thinly staffed to provide the typical staff-to-patient ratio.
During what was supposed to be a public forum for updates from LDH and university presidents on the latest COVID numbers, audience members made their voices heard. Fed up with the idea of sending their kids to school with a mask, a large group of parents showed up at Monday’s House Health and Welfare Committee meeting to try and convince lawmakers the latest mandates in schools are wrong. Dr. Joe Kanter, faced boos from the audience as he testified before state lawmakers on the efficacy of mask-wearing and the safety of vaccines.
None of Louisiana’s nine health regions have more than 20% of ICU beds available.
