Bogalusa Mayor Wendy Perrette is excited that the highway to connect her city with I-12 in neighboring St. Tammany Parish is finally fully funded.
The highway is described as a highway from Bush to I-12, but La. 3241 promises to be a vital connection for Bogalusa, giving that city access to the interstate via La. 21, which widens to four lanes between Bush and Sun and continues north in Washington Parish. With better access local officials predict a growth in retirees and young families drawn by lower housing costs and industry lured by more efficient transportation.
After such a long wait, there is some skepticism. Although it has been a long time coming, state highway department officials say the funding is solid. $240 million is committed for the entire road, which will run from the junction of La. 40 and La. 41 in Bush south through the central part of St. Tammany Parish to connect with I-12.
