The Amite Council will meet in special session next Tuesday to appoint a temporary member to serve in the District 3 seat after longtime Councilman Emanuel Zanders’ resignation earlier this week.
Zanders, a more than eight-year member of the council, resigned his seat on the board after pleading no contest to misdemeanor charges involving election offenses during his fall 2020 re-election. A condition of the 52-year-old’s sentencing is contingent on his resignation from the elected office.
According to the notice provided by Amite City Hall on Wednesday, the council will address an appointment for the District 3 Council seat during their special meeting, which is scheduled Tuesday, July 20, at 9 a.m., at City Hall.
