Yesterday Mandeville Mayor Clay Madden announced he will be asking the Mandeville City Council at their July 22 meeting to confirm his appointment of Todd Schliem as the new Chief of Police for the City of Mandeville.
Schliem comes to the Mandeville Police Department after a career with the FBI, a majority of which was spent working and collaborating with local police agencies.
Schliem moved to Mandeville in 2007 after transferring to the New Orleans field office. A native of Wisconsin, his wife is from New Orleans and they chose the City of Mandeville to live in and raise their children. He has received numerous awards during his career including the FBI Director’s Award in 2016 and the Metropolitan Crime Commission Case of the Year in 2015.
Madden made his decision to appoint Schliem after an open search, a series of multiple interviews, and discussions with veteran law enforcement officials in the area.
Based on a 2009 Act of the Louisiana Legislature, the Mandeville City Council will need to confirm Madden’s appointment of Schliem.
Madden said it is his intention to have Schliem assume the position shorty following his confirmation.
