On Thursday, the New Orleans City Council unanimously approved a resolution that would temporarily pause any plans to move City Hall to Treme.
The resolution, brought forth by Councilwoman Kristen Palmer, moves to create an interim zoning district which would pause the process of moving City Hall to Armstrong Park for more public input.
Residents have held rallies on the steps of City Hall advocating against the proposal.
The relocation of New Orleans City Hall is not the only option on the table as the city seeks to renovate and repurpose the Municipal Auditorium, according to a statement last week from Mayor LaToya Cantrell. She said she is open to creating a commission to review other proposals for the facility and make a recommendation to her administration. Cantrell has strongly suggested a City Hall move as the best use for the facility that has sat vacant since Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
