Yesterday New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell addressed residents’ fears of crime after a poll found only 35 percent of New Orleanians saying they fell safe in the city.
During the press conference she discussed the city’s approach to reducing violent crime. Col. Terry Ebbert, the director of Homeland Security and Public Safety, along with other public safety, community and business leaders were in attendance.
Mayor Cantrell addressed gun violence reduction and laid out her plan to reduce violent crime in New Orleans. The multi-pronged approach includes more programs for young people and better resources for the New Orleans Police Department.
The mayor says the city has invested $40 million to reduce the amount of violent crime in the city, and brought together several community partners to address the issue head-on.
