Louisiana’s top health official says he believes the delta variant will be the dominant strain in the state within one month.
Dr. Joseph Kanter said to date, 19 cases of the highly-contagious variant have been confirmed in the state. He said that number is probably way too low when it comes to the number of actual cases of the variant in the state. He said the CDC predicts the variant is doubling in prevalence every two to three weeks.
Kanter says the message to people is if you’ve not yet chosen to get vaccinated, this should be a warning sign. He added that this variant is dangerous.
