The tropics are becoming more active, and an area in the southern Gulf of Mexico will be monitored in the coming days for possible tropical development.
The National Hurricane Center has increased development odds to 50% over the next 3-5 days, as an area of disturbed
weather has developed over the Bay of Campeche. Slow development of this system is possible, and a tropical depression could form by the middle of next week, the NHC says. Regardless of development, heavy rainfall will be possible over portions of Central America and southern Mexico during the next several days.
A possible track or potential impacts are not known at this time. More details will become available if the system gets better organized in the southern Gulf. Long-range forecast models, as of Saturday afternoon, currently spread out tropical moisture in the northern Gulf and possibly into the southeast by the end of next week. This could mean heavy rainfall potential for our area.
Being that an area of low pressure has not even developed yet, things can and will change. It’s important to monitor the forecast in the coming days, but it’s still too early to determine any impacts.
