
On May 26, the Hammond Police Department responded to North Oaks Medical Center in reference to a report of an individual getting stabbed.
HPD detectives learned De’Monica Butler, 23 years old of Hammond, got into a verbal altercation with the victim which led to the two individuals physically fighting. At some point during the fight, Butler used a knife to stab the victim multiple times.
The victim was transported to North Oaks where she was treated for serious injuries. She is expected to make a full recovery.
On May 27, 2021, HPD detectives obtained an arrest warrant on Butler for one count of Attempted Second Degree Murder. Later the same day, HPD executed a search warrant and was able to take Butler into custody without incident.
