Hammond High’s Robotics Challenge team, Torbotics 2080, received national recognition at the recent Southeastern regional awards ceremony winning the four most prestigious awards granted for the competition.
Teams from Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee and Alabama competed in the event.
Hammond juniors Matthew Benfield and Nathan Gendron were named two of the four Dean’s List Finalists for the region, earning top tier scholarships depending on their university of choice.
The Torbotics team was named the 2021 Chairman’s Award Winner for the Bayou Region. The prestigious award honors the team that best represents a model for other teams.
Hammond seniors Marcos Knighten, Tania Granados and Jacob Kinchen and sophomore Brayden Puls submitted this entry.
This is the fifth time in its 15-year history that Torbotics has won this top honor, which is more times than any other FIRST Robotics Challenge team in the state.
