A selection committee gathered yesterday to choose one of three visions for the long-abandoned former Six Flags site in New Orleans East.
Instead, they picked two.
The panel reached its unanimous decision following a day of extensive public comment. Members voiced hope that combining elements from the two most popular bids will bolster community support.
The development teams chosen to move forward were Kiernan-West/SHIELD 1, a Colorado-based real estate development company that specializes in transportation logistics centers combined with a nonprofit with the backing of Drew Brees and Buffalo Bills cornerback Josh Norman. The other was Bayou Phoenix, a partnership between New Orleans contractor Thomas Tubre and businessman Troy Henry, who propose an “amusement/water park, logistics/warehouse hub” and “super travel center” on the site.
Only one of the two remaining bidders will win control of the site.
