The St Tammany Chamber of Commerce notified its members that the start of this week could be a crucial time when it comes to the proposed casino project in Slidell.
On Monday, May 3, the Senate Finance Committee will hear SB 213 by Sharon Hewitt (R-Slidell) and on Tuesday HB 497 by Mary DuBussion (R-Slidell) will be heard by the Administration Of Criminal Justice Committee. Both bills provide for a referendum election in St. Tammany Parish relative to gaming and is one of several steps needed to allow voters in St. Tammany to decide in the fall if they want a gaming resort in Slidell.
Earlier Hewitt said if all goes according to plan, the citizens of St Tammany could be voting on the issue in October of this year.
