St. Tammany Officials were notified by forecasters at the National Weather Service yesterday that the Bogue Falaya River, near Camp Covington is expected to reach 58 feet by midnight on Thursday, April 15.
Flood stage is 45 feet. The River is currently at 54.95 feet.
Parish officials continue to monitor the expected severe weather threats.
St. Tammany Parish President Mike Cooper is asking residents, especially those who live near the Bogue Falaya River at Camp Covington, to please continue to monitor the current and severe weather threat and be ready to evacuate if necessary. Forecasters are predicting continued severe weather and excessive rainfall into Friday and early Saturday. There is also the potential for wind gusts to 60 mph and the possibility of hail. An additional one to three inches of rain is forecast across parts of St Tammany Parish. Due to significant past rainfall, flash flooding will be a concern through Saturday morning.
A Flash Flood Watch is in effect through noon on Saturday. Heavy and intense rainfall may lead to water covered roadways. Rivers will continue to rise and possible flooding may happen. Camp Salmen Nature Park, located at 35122 Parish Parkway Slidell, is closed due to high water.
