
The temporary memorial still stands on Highway 190 in Mandeville on the spot where Mandeville Police Captain Vinny Liberto was shot and killed in September 2019 while pursuing a suspect.
The 58-year-old father of seven spent 25 years with Mandeville police and was in the Marines for 10 years prior to that.
State Rep. Richard Nelson says he wants to set up a permanent memorial and he is submitting a bill that would rename this intersection at Highway 190 and Highway 22, the Capt. Vinny Liberto Memorial Passover. Nelson says he expects this piece of proposed legislation to have no problem getting through the legislature.
