Dr. Chuck Preston, at the St. Tammany Coroner’s Office, says five infants have died in the parish because of unsafe sleeping conditions.
His office has partnered with the national Cribs for Kids organization to offer free training class for parents, grandparents, caregivers and first responders on best ways to place a sleeping infant inside a crib. Upon completion of the 90-minute class, parents are given a free Pack ‘n Play. Preston says many parents have never been given instruction in safe sleeping conditions for their infants. Through the free training program parents will learn the ABCs of safe sleeping – Alone, on their Backs, and in a Crib.
