Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards has announced a media briefing today at noon to discuss Louisiana’s response to COVID-19.
Gov. Edwards is expected to address the state’s vaccine distribution efforts and new guidance from the CDControl about mask-wearing for fully-vaccinated individuals. The CDC issued new guidance on Monday, March 8 saying fully-vaccinated Americans could gather with other fully-vaccinated people without masks or social distancing.
In addition, pharmacies across the state have received a letter alerting them to prepare for the expansion of vaccinations as of noon today. A representative of the Louisiana Independent Pharmacies Association outlined the new criteria in a Monday afternoon email to about 400 of the state’s pharmacies. The new vaccine priority group, according to the email, would include adults of all ages who meet specific criteria that put them at increased risk for severe illness from the novel coronavirus.
Today marks one year since the first case of the coronavirus was reported in Louisiana.
