The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office held its annual surplus auction last month, which resulted in record sales for the agency.
Interested parties were able to register and bid on 378 lots/items online. Items consisted of a wide variety of vehicles, tools, furniture, kitchen equipment, computers, office supplies and other items. Auction lots were items from various divisions from within the STPSO, as well as items forfeited by seizure. Auction sales generated $374,503, which will be used to replace outdated surplus with new equipment. Even in lieu of Covid-19, the funds generated from this year’s sale was the most ever generated from a surplus auction held by the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Randy Smith said it is always his priority to be a good steward of taxpayer funds while looking for innovative ways to ensure his deputies have the most the up-to-date equipment.
