Gov. John Bel Edwards announced Thursday that starting Monday, teachers, day care workers, and people aged 54 to 61-years-old with underlying health conditions will be able to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.
Edwards also confirmed that the number of UK variant cases in the state increased to 15, and that there are 32 other tests pending laboratory confirmation. At the very end of the press conference Gov. Edwards learned that the president signed Louisiana’s emergency declaration request amid the winter storm. Gov. Edwards, in a Wednesday evening letter to President Biden, requested a Presidential emergency declaration as severe winter weather continues to impact the state, leaving three people dead and tens of thousands of people without electricity and water for several days, with more impacts likely.
