Unfortunately, Evelyn Daniels, 83 years old of Hammond, was found unresponsive and pronounced dead.
On February 10, at approximately 1:35 pm, the Hammond Fire Department was dispatched to the 900 block of Martin Luther King Avenue. The first firefighters arrived on scene within five minutes and found the two-story residence on fire. HFD learned one occupant was still inside. Firefighters began to extinguish the fire and search the residence. Unfortunately, Evelyn Daniels, 83 years old of Hammond, was found unresponsive and pronounced dead. The fire is under investigation.
