Tulane University’s president announced in a letter to students Thursday that the university has confirmed that the U.K. variant was found within the school community.
The Louisiana Department of Health has confirmed five cases of the variant in Louisiana so far, two of those being in New Orleans. The other three cases were found in Southwest, Louisiana. Although more contagious, health officials agree that the COVID-19 vaccine is effective against the variant. LDH believes the variant will be the dominant strain of the virus in Louisiana by March.
