Dr Kanter with the Department of Health says lagging vaccinations at some nursing homes, when medicine is available, could be due to misinformation. He tried to address some of the concerns yesterday. Kanter says the first myth is that the mRNA technology is new. He said the messenger RNA technology has been around for years and that we have used it in cancer therapeutics. The second myth is that the vaccine can make you sick. Kanter said it is not possible for these Pfizer of Moderna vaccines to get someone COVID as there is no live virus involved in it at all. Another myth he said he’s hearing is that mRNA vaccines can alter your DNA. He said all the mRNA material does is basically show your body a mug shot, so it know what the virus looks like. Dr. Kanter said he believes the nursing home numbers, particularly among eligible staff, will go up. But says what needs to go down, is false information about the COVID-19 vaccines.
