Speed and the lack of a seatbelt are both believed to be factors in a fatal crash that occurred near Covington early Tuesday morning. At approximately 5 a.m. Tuesday a 31-year-old Florida man was driving westbound on Lowe Davis Road near Covington in a Toyota Tacoma when he lost control of the vehicle. The truck left the roadway and impacted the ditch before coming to rest after striking a tree near Wilkinson Street. Neighbors heard the crash and called 911. Responding medical personnel transported the driver to an area hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries Wednesday evening. Sheriff Randy Smith says this tragedy should serve as a reminder to all drivers to slow down, obey posted speed limits, and always wear your seatbelt.
