Louisiana Republican Sens. Bill Cassidy and John Kennedy will cast different votes Wednesday, Jan. 6 when Congress decides whether to certify President-elect Joe Biden’s electoral college victory. Cassidy joined a bipartisan group of senators who say the election is over and will vote in Biden’s favor. Kennedy is joining some Republicans who want a commission to review results in certain states and examine allegations of voter fraud. Election officials, including Louisiana Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin, say there’s no evidence anyone cheated the vote. Courts have repeatedly struck down President Trump’s lawsuits based on unsubstantiated claims of fraud.
Cassidy said in a joint statement: “All challenges through recounts and appeals have been exhausted. At this point, further attempts to cast doubt on the legitimacy of the 2020 presidential election are contrary to the clearly expressed will of the American people and only serve to undermine Americans’ confidence in the already determined election results.”
