Tickfaw City Hall will be closed on Monday, Jan. 4, as the town lays to rest two-term Councilman Guy Ribando, who will be remembered in funeral services at Our Lady of Pompeii in Tickfaw. He died on Dec. 29, and he was 77 years old. A Tickfaw native, Ribando was a retired supervisor at Dupont Chemical Company in LaPlace. In 2014, he was elected to serve the first of two terms on the Tickfaw Town Council, an office he held until his death. With roughly two years remaining on that term, a special election will be called to fill the vacant seat; however, the date for a special election has yet to be determined.
Ribando is survived by his wife Betty Smith Ribando, his two daughters, and two stepchildren, as well as his four siblings, and a large extended family and numerous friends.
Funeral services are being held through Harry McKneely & Son in Hammond on Monday, Jan. 4, with visitation from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
