St. Tammany Parish Health System is canceling inpatient elective surgeries due to an increase in COVID-19 related hospitalizations. Last night the system’s CEO sent an email to all doctors informing them. The cancellations impact surgeries that require someone to be admitted and observed.
After a 14-patient leap since last week’s update, St. Tammany Health System says they have 34 patients in COVID care, an inpatient census of 143, and 532 patients discharged from COVID care since the pandemic began. Looking at the past four Monday updates, they reported 9, 17, 20 and 34 patients.
All residents are reminded that spending more time indoors as weather turns cold increases our risk of exposure to colds, flu and viruses, including COVID-19. STHS recommends everyone wear a mask, follow proper handwashing and cough etiquette and maintain your distance from others, particularly when you don’t feel well.
