In Mississippi their state health department says hospitalizations for COVID-19 are on track to the crisis levels they saw this summer. Officials say if changes aren’t made immediately, they’ll see critical shortages of first-line care for the seriously ill and injured. Officials say everyone knows what works: social distancing, small gatherings, and masks. State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs and state epidemiologist Dr. Paul Byers will be live at noon today on Facebook to answer questions about the virus. Mississippi has reported more than 129,000 COVID-19 cases and nearly 3,500 coronavirus-related deaths since March. Gov. Tate Reeves extended his “Safe Return” executive order until Dec. 11. Fifteen Mississippi counties are under mask mandates. That order relates to Harrison and Jackson counties on the Gulf Coast. The governor canceled a COVID-19 briefing scheduled for Tuesday afternoon and later in the day announced that his youngest daughter had tested positive for the virus.
