New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell says code enforcement is considering consequences after a large group of people gathered at the amphitheater on Decatur Street in the French Quarter. Most were not covering their mouths and noses. The event featured popular recording artist Lauren Daigle. The mayor says event organizers were made aware of guidelines beforehand. Cantrell said Covid infections are breaking records nationally. She added New Orleans has crushed the curve twice and the city will not go back. Meanwhile Cantrell and New Orleans Health Director Dr. Jennifer Avegno plan to outline the next phase of reopening the city’s economy amid the coronavirus pandemic later today, which would be Phase 3.3. This phase should allow bars to let patrons inside to consume alcohol for the first time since they were shut down early in the COVID closures. The mayor and health director will lay out all of the restrictions that are eased under the new phase at 11:00am.
