On Wednesday, October 28, just before 1:00 pm, Troopers from State Police Troop L responded to a fatal crash on LA 16 west of LA 1074 in Washington Parish. The crash claimed the life of 17-year-old Ciarra N. Carr of Mandeville.
The initial investigation led Troopers to determine that Carr was northbound on Choctaw Rd in a 2001 Ford Escape when she disregarded a stop sign entering LA 16 in front of a 2006 Freightliner 18-wheeler. The Freightliner impacted the Escape on its driver’s side. The Freightliner rolled over and impacted a utility pole as well as a gas line before coming to a stop. The gas line ignited and engulfed the Freightliner in flames. Although Carr was properly restrained, she sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene. The driver of the Freightliner was able to exit his vehicle with minor injuries.
Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash.
