During the early voting period that ended on Tuesday, Tangipahoa Parish residents registered more than 22,000 ballots cast so far toward the Nov. 3 Presidential election. While not quite double the early voting turnout in this parish in 2016, Tangipahoa Parish Registrar of Voters Andi Matheu calculates there are approximately 82,354 eligible voters in the parish, so this is equal to 27 percent turnout already. Matheu said 3,960 of the ballots cast were mailed in to the Registrar of Voters’ Office. That number can continue to grow, as mail-in ballots have until next week to be received in order for those votes to count toward the election. Tangipahoa is currently ranked with the 13th highest early voting turnout in the state.
