DA Warren Montgomery responded to St. Tammany Sheriff Randy Smith’s endorsement of his opponent in the District Attorney’s race saying that Sheriff Smith had endorsed Jack Strain’s candidate for D.A. six years ago. He said it does not come as a surprise that Smith would endorse the machine’s candidate in the current race. Montgomery added he never sought the endorsement of political figures, but he has received the endorsement of the Republican Party in both parishes, the Alliance for Good Government, the St. Tammany Chamber PAC, and more.
Last week Smith announced his official endorsement of Vincent Wynne for the office of District Attorney. Smith called Wynne an unwavering supporter of law enforcement. Smith said his experience will bring integrity and an efficient working relationship between the office of the DA and law enforcement agencies charged with keeping citizens safe.
